זו אחת הסיבות לכך שתרגול נכון לבגרות באנגלית 5 יחידות אינו יכול להסתכם בקריאת סיכומים. תלמיד יכול לדעת עשרות מילים ולהתקשות להבין אותן בתוך משפט. הוא יכול להכיר Present Perfect ובכל זאת לבחור זמן לא מתאים בכתיבה. הוא יכול לקרוא טקסט שלם ולגלות שהשאלה לא ביקשה ממנו לסכם את הפסקה אלא לזהות סיבה, תוצאה, דוגמה או עמדת הכותב.
מאגר 1000 השאלות והתשובות שלפניכם נבנה בדיוק סביב הפער הזה. השאלות אינן שאלות רשמיות של משרד החינוך ואינן העתקה מבחינות קודמות. אלה שאלות תרגול מקוריות שנועדו לעבוד על סוג החשיבה שתלמיד ברמת 5 יחידות צריך לפתח: דיוק, הבנת הקשר, ניסוח, הרחבת אוצר מילים, שליטה במבנה משפט, קריאה ביקורתית ויכולת לענות באנגלית בלי לקפוא.
חשוב גם להבין שמספר גדול של שאלות אינו מטרה בפני עצמה. אפשר לפתור מאה שאלות ביום ולא ללמוד כמעט דבר אם מסמנים תשובה וממשיכים. לעומת זאת, עשר שאלות שנבדקות בצורה רצינית יכולות לחשוף דפוס שלם: אולי אתם מפספסים מילות ניגוד כמו however; אולי אתם כותבים משפטים ארוכים מדי; אולי אתם מבינים את הרעיון אבל מתקשים להוכיח אותו מתוך הטקסט; ואולי דווקא אוצר המילים הוא זה שמעכב אתכם.
לכן הדרך הנכונה להשתמש במדריך היא לא לרוץ אל שאלה מספר 1000. בחרו בכל פעם קבוצה קטנה, פתרו ללא הצצה בתשובות, סמנו טעויות וחזרו אליהן. תלמיד שמזהה מדוע טעה מתחיל להפוך מבחינה לבחינה מקורא שמנחש לקורא שמפעיל שיטה.
בגרות 5 יחידות אינה מבחן של זיכרון בלבד
אחת הטעויות המבלבלות בהכנה לבגרות היא המחשבה שאפשר "ללמוד את כל החומר" ואז להיות מוכנים. באנגלית אין רשימה סופית של משפטים שאפשר לשנן. אותו מבנה לשוני יכול להופיע בנושא טכנולוגיה, חינוך, סביבה, עבודה, חברה או מדע. אותה מילת קישור יכולה לשנות את משמעותה של פסקה שלמה. לכן המטרה איננה לזכור תשובות אלא לבנות מערכת של הרגלים.
קריאה ברמה גבוהה, למשל, איננה קריאה שבה מבינים כל מילה. קורא יעיל יודע להבחין בין מידע מרכזי לבין פרט שולי, לזהות מילה לפי ההקשר, להבין למה הכותב הביא דוגמה ולחזור במהירות למקום הרלוונטי כאשר הוא קורא שאלה. זו מיומנות שאפשר לאמן בדיוק כפי שמאמנים שריר.
ה-British Council מציג בתרגולי הקריאה שלו פעילויות שמטרתן לפתח הבנת טקסט ולבנות אוצר מילים, ולא רק לבדוק אם הלומד יודע לתרגם משפטים. אפשר לראות דוגמאות לגישה הזאת באזור תרגול הקריאה של British Council. העיקרון שימושי גם לתלמיד ישראלי המתכונן לבגרות: לקרוא כדי להבין קשרים ורעיונות, לא כדי לתרגם מילה אחרי מילה.
בכתיבה הבעיה דומה. תלמידים רבים מנסים להרשים באמצעות מילים מסובכות, כאשר בפועל משפט ברור ומדויק שווה הרבה יותר ממשפט מפואר שהמבנה שלו נשבר באמצע. כתיבה טובה נוצרת מתכנון קצר, בחירת עמדה, שתי סיבות ברורות, דוגמאות מתאימות וחיבור הגיוני בין המשפטים.
גם בדיבור, ההצלחה אינה תלויה במבטא מושלם. תלמיד צריך להיות מסוגל לפתח תשובה, להסביר מדוע הוא חושב כך, לתת דוגמה ולהמשיך לדבר גם אם חסרה לו מילה. מי שעוצר בכל פעם שהוא מחפש את הניסוח "המושלם" מתקשה יותר ממי שיודע לנסח מחדש רעיון במילים פשוטות.
משרד החינוך מפרסם חומרי בגרות, הנחיות וארכיון בחינות באנגלית. כדאי תמיד לבדוק את עמוד הבגרות הרשמי באנגלית כדי לעבוד לפי החומר וההנחיות העדכניים למועד שבו נבחנים, ולא להסתמך על מדריכים ישנים שמסתובבים ברשת.
למה תלמידים פותרים עוד ועוד מבחנים ועדיין נשארים באותו ציון?
כאשר תלמיד מקבל 72 במבחן, התגובה הטבעית היא לפתור עוד מבחן. לפעמים זה מועיל, אך רק אם יודעים מדוע אבדו 28 הנקודות. בלי אבחון, התלמיד עלול לחזור שוב ושוב על אותה טעות. אם הוא אינו מבחין בין according to the text לבין שאלה שמבקשת דעה אישית, עוד עשרים טקסטים לא בהכרח יפתרו את הבעיה.
צריך להפוך טעויות למידע. אחרי כל תרגול אפשר לחלק אותן לחמש קבוצות: לא הכרתי מילה; הבנתי לא נכון את השאלה; מצאתי את המקום הלא נכון בטקסט; ידעתי את התשובה אך ניסחתי אותה בצורה לא ברורה; או שעבדתי לאט מדי. פתאום הציון הופך ממספר כללי למפה שמראה מה צריך לתקן.
דוגמה פשוטה: תלמיד קורא את השאלה Why did the researchers change their original plan? ומעתיק מהטקסט מה היה התכנון החדש. המידע שהוא כתב אולי נכון, אבל הוא לא ענה על why. הבעיה במקרה הזה אינה אנגלית חלשה. הבעיה היא חוסר תשומת לב לפונקציה של מילת השאלה.
בשיעור אנגלית אישי אפשר לעצור בדיוק בנקודה הזאת. במקום לעבור מיד לשאלה הבאה, המורה יכול להראות לתלמיד את הדפוס: שלוש טעויות שונות נבעו למעשה מאותה בעיה. כך שעה של עבודה יכולה להיות יעילה יותר משבוע של פתרון אוטומטי.
הורים רואים לפעמים ילד שמקבל ציונים לא רעים ומניחים שאין צורך בעזרה. אבל אם הילד משקיע ארבע שעות כדי להגיע לתוצאה שחבריו מגיעים אליה בשעה וחצי, ייתכן שהבעיה איננה הידע אלא שיטת העבודה. גם את זה אפשר ללמד.
המטרה של 1000 השאלות הבאות היא לא להעמיס. הן מאפשרות לבודד מיומנויות, לזהות דפוסים ולבנות תרגול הדרגתי. אין צורך לפתור הכול ברצף. עדיף לחזור על אזור חלש מספר פעמים ולראות שהדיוק משתפר.
איך לעבוד עם 1000 השאלות כך שהן באמת ישפרו את האנגלית?
התחילו באבחון. בחרו חמישה סטים מתחומים שונים ופתרו אותם ללא מילון. אל תנסו להשיג ציון גבוה בכוח. המטרה בשלב הזה היא לגלות מה קורה כאשר אתם נתקלים בשאלה שאינה מוכרת.
לאחר מכן צרו "מחברת טעויות". ליד כל טעות כתבו את התשובה הנכונה, אבל הוסיפו גם משפט אחד שמסביר למה טעיתם. המשפט הזה חשוב יותר מהתשובה עצמה. "לא שמתי לב ל-although", "בלבלתי בין affect ל-effect", "עניתי מהידע שלי ולא לפי הטקסט" — אלו הערות שמייצרות שינוי.
בתרגילי אוצר מילים, אל תשננו רק את התרגום לעברית. כתבו משפט חדש באנגלית. אם למדתם את המילה significant, נסו: There was a significant improvement in her results. כך המילה נכנסת למערכת השפה שלכם ולא נשארת ככרטיסייה מבודדת.
בכתיבה, אל תסתפקו בקריאת התשובה לדוגמה. כסו אותה וכתבו גרסה משלכם. אחר כך בדקו: האם יש נושא ברור? האם כל פסקה מפתחת רעיון אחד? האם השתמשתם במילות קישור בצורה טבעית? האם המשפטים שלכם קצרים מספיק כדי לשלוט בהם?
בדיבור, קראו שאלה בקול, הפעילו טיימר והקליטו תשובה. אחר כך הקשיבו לעצמכם. חפשו לא רק שגיאות דקדוק אלא גם מקומות שבהם נתקעתם, חזרתם על אותה מילה או נתתם תשובה קצרה מדי. בפעם השנייה נסו לענות שוב בצורה מסודרת יותר.

אם אתם תלמידים, נסו לא למדוד את עצמכם רק לפי כמה טעיתם. שאלו איזו טעות חזרה ומה אתם יודעים היום שלא ידעתם לפני שבוע. אם אתם הורים, חפשו לא רק ציון אלא גם סימנים לכך שהילד עובד בצורה עצמאית יותר, מבין הוראות מהר יותר ונלחץ פחות כאשר מופיעה שאלה לא מוכרת.
למידה טובה לבגרות באנגלית 5 יחידות אינה אמורה להפוך לריצה אינסופית אחרי עוד דף עבודה. היא צריכה להפוך בהדרגה למערכת: קוראים, מבינים את המשימה, מחפשים ראיה, מנסחים תשובה, בודקים ומתקנים.
כאשר חלק מהמערכת הזאת עדיין אינו עובד, שיעור אנגלית אישי יכול להתמקד בדיוק שם. לפעמים התלמיד לא צריך "עוד אנגלית"; הוא צריך שמישהו יראה לו מדוע הוא מפסיד נקודות, ייתן לו משימה מדויקת ויעבוד איתו עד שהפעולה החדשה הופכת להרגל.
