אבל אז מופיעה שאלה קצת אחרת: “Who is your mother's brother?” או “What do you call your wife's father?”

Cambridge University Press.

הבעיה מופיעה כאשר השאלה אינה מבקשת תרגום ישיר אלא מציגה סיטואציה: “Dana's sister has a ten-year-old son. Who is he to Dana?”

במקום לקרוא “granddaughter – נכדה” בפעם השישית, עדיף לכסות את התשובה ולשאול: “My son's daughter is my ___.”

כאשר כתוב “Who is your father's mother?” אמרו: “She is my grandmother.”

אם השאלה הייתה על grandmother, שאלו את עצמכם מה תהיה התשובה ל־“my mother's father”, “my father's father” או “my grandmother's husband”.

אפשר להמציא משפחה ובה grandparents, parents, three siblings, an aunt, an uncle, cousins and in-laws, ואז לנסח עליה שאלות.

בתרגול אישי המורה יכול לשנות את נקודת המבט במהירות: “Who is Tom to Sarah?” ואז “Who is Sarah to Tom?”

אחרי “aunt” אפשר לומר: “My aunt lives in another city.”

הפעלים raise ו־bring up, לדוגמה, יכולים לשמש בהקשר של גידול ילדים. take after מתאר דמיון באופי או בתכונה, בעוד look like עוסק בדרך כלל בדמיון במראה.

במקום לשאול “מה פירוש get along?”, המורה יכול לשאול “Who do you get along with in your family?”

תלמיד יכול לדעת grandfather, אך כדי לכתוב עליו הוא צריך לבחור בין is, was, has, lives או lived.

ההבדל בין his aunt, her aunt ו־their aunt יכול לשנות את האדם שאליו המשפט מתייחס.

במקום “cousin”, אמרו “Daniel is Maya's cousin.”

Model answer: Questions force the learner to retrieve and apply the word instead of only recognizing it.
  44. Question: What should you do if the same five words cause most of your mistakes?
Model answer: Focus your next practice session mainly on those five words.
  45. Question: How can you make a difficult word easier to remember?

לדוגמה, במקום “She is my aunt” נסו “My aunt lives nearby”.

Niece
Nephew
“My sister's daughter is my niece.”
“My sister's son is my nephew.”

She is my cousin”.
We see each other on holidays”.

4 Point Bagrut, B1.

Dig into Digital.

3. Council of Europe – CEFR Companion Volume.

4. Cambridge University Press –
