למשל, המילה platform אינה מסובכת כאשר לומדים אותה לבד, אבל בשאלה אמיתית היא יכולה להופיע בתוך הודעה: “The platform has changed from 2 to 5.”

אם המילה delayed הייתה הבעיה, אפשר לכתוב: “My bus was delayed for ten minutes.” אם הביטוי get off בלבל אתכם, אפשר לבנות זוג: “I get on the bus at school and get off near home.”

באנגלית אומרים get on a bus או get on a train, אבל בדרך כלל get in a car או get in a taxi.

מילות זמן הן קבוצה נוספת שגורמת להרבה טעויות: before, after, until, from, at, every, due, early, late.

When does it leave?
arrival הגעה When does it arrive?
destination יעד Where is it going?
delayed מאוחר מהמתוכנן How late is it?
What is the alternative?
transfer / change החלפה Where do I change?
direct ללא החלפה Is it a direct service?
platform רציף Which platform do I need?

אין צורך במשפטים מורכבים: “Which platform do I need?”, “Is this train direct?”, “Where do I change?”

נניח שהשאלה היא “Why did Dana wait for the next bus?” תלמיד שמזהה מיד את because או את הקשר בין full לבין wait for the next one מפעיל הבנה.

אם במשפט המקורי נאמר “The bus was full, so Dana waited for the next one”, נסו לכתוב “The train was cancelled, so Dana took a bus.” Why did Dana take a bus?

אם נשאלתם “When does the train leave?” די ב-“At 09:30.”

קחו תשובה כמו “Because of heavy traffic” ונסו לנסח שאלה אפשרית: “Why was the bus late?” קחו תשובה “Platform 5” ונסחו: “Which platform should passengers use?”

למשל, הטקסט עוסק ברכבת לשדה התעופה והשאלה שואלת “Why did Amir choose the direct train?” תלמיד עשוי לכתוב “He went to the airport.”

נניח שהמשפט הוא “Because of congestion, the bus arrived twenty minutes late.”

מילים קטנות כמו not, no, only, before, after, except ו-instead יכולות להפוך את המשמעות. הודעה שאומרת “Bus 8 will not stop here” נראית כמעט זהה להודעה “Bus 8 will stop here”, אבל הפעולה הנדרשת הפוכה.

מול “The train is delayed.”

גם בניית דיבור יכולה להתחבר ישירות לשאלון C. אחרי שאלה כתובה על תחבורה, המורה יכול להרחיב: “How do you usually get to school?”, “What do you do when your bus is late?”, “Would you rather take a direct bus or change trains twice?”

היתרון במאגר גדול הוא החשיפה לניסוחים רבים: why, where, when, how long, which, what happened, what should the passenger do ועוד.

למשל, לשאלת why אפשר להתחיל ב-“Because…”, לשאלת when ב-“At…” או “On…”, ולשאלת where ב-“At/In/On…”

אחרי שאלה על delay אפשר לשאול “What do you do when your bus is late?” אחרי שאלה על direct train אפשר לשאול “Do you prefer a direct route or a cheaper route with changes?”

British Council LearnEnglish – Transport 1.

Council of Europe – CEFR Reading Comprehension.
