הכמות תלויה בפורמט שהמורה או הבחינה דורשים, אבל מבחינת איכות אפשר להשתמש בכלל פשוט: אל תביאו עובדה שאין לה תפקיד. אם טענתם ש-Kate מפחדת מהאמת, בחרו אירוע שמראה את הפחד והסבירו כיצד הוא תומך בטענה. אין צורך לספר את כל העלילה שהובילה לאירוע אם היא אינה רלוונטית. מצד שני, תשובה של משפט אחד בלבד עלולה להישאר ללא הוכחה. תלמידים יכולים לתרגל מבנה של שלושה שלבים: answer, supporting event, explanation. ברגע שהמבנה הזה נהיה אוטומטי, הרבה יותר קל להתאים את האורך לדרישה המדויקת.

7. מה לעשות אם אני מבין את התשובה בעברית אבל לא מצליח לכתוב באנגלית?

זו בעיה נפוצה מאוד, והיא אינה אומרת שאינכם יודעים את החומר. אל תנסו לתרגם פסקה עברית מורכבת. כתבו קודם שלוש נקודות באנגלית: character, reason, evidence. לדוגמה: Kate – afraid of truth – Larry / Joe. עכשיו בנו משפט אחד מכל נקודה. השתמשו במבנים קבועים שימושיים כמו This shows that…, She believes that…, As a result…, Unlike Joe, Chris…. עם הזמן המבנים האלה הופכים זמינים אוטומטית. בשיעור אישי ניתן לזהות בדיוק אילו חלקים חסרים: אוצר מילים, סדר מילים, זמנים, linking words או עצם היכולת לארגן את הרעיון.
