What is the writer's opinion? או Why does the writer mention…?
However, it can give students access to teachers and courses that are not available in their area.”
תלמיד בוחר תשובה קיצונית מדי, למשל “The writer believes all students should study online.”, אף שהקטע מעולם לא אמר זאת.
לפעמים היא מופיעה כבר בתחילת הטקסט: “Schools should provide more practical financial education.”
הבחנה זו חשובה מאוד כששואלים “Why does the writer mention…?”.
ביטויים כמו although, while, admittedly, it is true that, on the one hand עשויים להציג נקודה שהכותב מוכן לקבל.
אם כתוב “Some parents argue that phones are necessary for emergencies.”, עדיין איננו יודעים אם הכותב מסכים.
לכן השאלה “What can be concluded from the text?”
|---|---|---|---|
| Claim | מציג את עמדת הכותב | I believe, should, need to, it is important | מה הכותב רוצה שאקבל? |
| Reason | מסביר את הטענה | because, since, one reason is | למה הוא חושב כך? |
| Example | ממחיש רעיון | for example, for instance, such as | איזו טענה הדוגמה מוכיחה? |
| Contrast | משנה כיוון | however, but, although, yet | מה השתנה אחרי מילת הקישור? |
| Concession | מכיר בנקודה של הצד השני | admittedly, it is true that, while | האם זו עמדת הכותב או רק נקודה שהוא מוכן לקבל? |
| Conclusion | מסכם או מציע פעולה | therefore, overall, ultimately, for this reason | לאיזו מסקנה הכותב מוביל? |
Tone
רעיון מרכזי טוב יהיה משהו כמו: “A balanced approach to remote and office work.”
כאשר הכותב מזכיר אדם, מחקר, מצב או דוגמה, התשובה אינה “because he wanted to talk about it”.
ההבדל בין “This solution may help” לבין “This solution will certainly solve the problem” הוא גם הבדל בעוצמת הביטחון של הכותב.
Locate, Prove, Answer
נניח שבטקסט כתוב: “Many teenagers prefer digital notes because they can search them quickly before an exam.” והשאלה היא “Why do some teenagers prefer digital notes?”. “Because they can search them quickly.”
במשפט “Although online meetings save travel time, they cannot replace every face-to-face conversation.”, העמדה החזקה נמצאת בחלק השני.
מילות תוצאה כמו therefore, as a result, consequently מספרות לנו שהכותב מתקדם מהראיות למסקנה.
|---|---|---|
| ניגוד | but, however, yet, nevertheless | לחפש שינוי בעמדה או מגבלה |
| סיבה | because, since, due to | לזהות למה דבר מסוים קורה |
| תוצאה | therefore, thus, as a result | לסמן מה נובע מהמידע הקודם |
| דוגמה | for example, for instance, such as | לחזור לאחור ולשאול איזה רעיון מודגם |
לדוגמה: “The new system was initially unpopular, but residents gradually accepted it after traffic decreased.”
מילים כמו always, never, everyone, completely, only דורשות זהירות. אם הכותב אומר “may help some students”, תשובה שטוענת שהפתרון “always helps all students” שינתה את המשמעות בצורה דרמטית.
אחרי שקוראים טקסט על שימוש בטלפונים בבית הספר, אפשר לסגור אותו ולשאול את התלמיד: “Do you agree with the writer? Why?”
בטקסטי דעה מופיעים מבנים כמו should, could, may, might, if, although.
1 – School Start Times
Text: Many teenagers arrive at school tired because they go to sleep late and must wake up early. In my view, secondary schools should consider starting slightly later. A later start would not solve every sleep problem, because students still need healthy evening habits. However, giving teenagers more time in the morning could improve concentration and make the school day more productive. Schools would need to reorganize transport and after-school activities, but these practical difficulties should be discussed rather than used as a reason to reject the idea immediately.
- What change does the writer support?
Answer: Starting secondary school slightly later. - Why do many teenagers arrive tired?
Answer: They go to sleep late and wake up early. - Does the writer claim a later start will solve every sleep problem?
Answer: No. - What benefit does the writer mention?
Answer: Better concentration and a more productive school day. - What practical difficulty is mentioned?
Answer: Reorganizing transport and after-school activities. - What is the function of “However”?
Answer: It introduces a contrasting positive argument. - What can be inferred about the writer's position?
Answer: The writer supports the idea but recognizes its difficulties. - What does “these practical difficulties” refer to?
Answer: Transport and after-school scheduling problems. - What is the writer's tone?
Answer: Balanced and supportive. - What is the main idea?
Answer: Later school starts deserve serious consideration despite practical challenges.
סט 2 – Mobile Phones at School
Text: Completely banning phones at school sounds simple, but I am not convinced it is the best solution. Phones can distract students, especially during lessons, and schools need clear rules about when devices may be used. At the same time, phones can support learning, help students check schedules and allow families to communicate after school. Instead of treating every use as a problem, schools should teach students when technology is useful and when it should be put away.
- Is the writer in favor of a complete phone ban?
Answer: No. - What problem with phones does the writer recognize?
Answer: They can distract students. - What does the writer believe schools need?
Answer: Clear rules about phone use. - Give one useful function of phones mentioned in the text.
Answer: They can support learning, check schedules or help family communication. - What solution does the writer prefer?
Answer: Teaching responsible and appropriate phone use. - Why does the writer mention distraction?
Answer: To acknowledge a real argument for restricting phones. - What does “At the same time” signal?
Answer: A different side of the argument. - What can be inferred about the writer's attitude toward technology?
Answer: Technology is useful when used responsibly. - Which statement best describes the writer's approach?
Answer: Regulation rather than total prohibition. - What is the purpose of the text?
Answer: To argue for balanced rules on phones at school.
סט 3 – Homework
Text: Homework can be useful, but more homework does not automatically mean more learning. A short assignment that asks students to practise an important skill may be valuable. Two hours of repetitive exercises, on the other hand, can create frustration without adding much understanding. Teachers should focus on the purpose of homework rather than its length. Students also need time to rest, exercise and take part in family life.
- What does the writer think about homework?
Answer: It can be useful when it has a clear purpose. - What does not automatically lead to more learning?
Answer: Giving more homework. - What kind of homework may be valuable?
Answer: Short practice of an important skill. - What may repetitive exercises create?
Answer: Frustration. - What should teachers focus on?
Answer: The purpose of homework. - Why does the writer mention rest and family life?
Answer: To show that students need balance outside school. - What contrast is presented in the text?
Answer: Useful focused homework versus long repetitive homework. - What does “on the other hand” introduce?
Answer: A contrasting example. - What is the main message?
Answer: Homework quality matters more than quantity. - Is the writer completely against homework?
Answer: No.
סט 4 – Artificial Intelligence in Learning
Text: Artificial intelligence can help students explain difficult ideas, practise vocabulary and receive quick feedback. Nevertheless, students should not allow it to do all their thinking for them. If a learner copies an answer without understanding it, the technology has saved time but not created learning. Schools should therefore teach students how to use AI as a tool for questioning, checking and practising rather than as a replacement for effort.
- Name one educational use of AI mentioned.
Answer: Explaining difficult ideas, practising vocabulary or providing feedback. - What warning does the writer give?
Answer: Students should not let AI do all their thinking. - Why is copying an answer a problem?
Answer: It may save time without producing understanding. - What does “Nevertheless” signal?
Answer: A contrast between benefits and risks. - What role should AI have?
Answer: It should be a learning tool rather than a replacement for effort. - What is the writer's attitude toward AI?
Answer: Cautiously positive. - Why does the writer give the copying example?
Answer: To show how AI can be misused. - What can be inferred about effective learning?
Answer: It requires active thinking. - What does “it” in “use it as a tool” refer to?
Answer: Artificial intelligence. - What is the main idea?
Answer: AI can support learning if students use it actively and responsibly.
סט 5 – Public Transport
Text: Cities often encourage people to leave their cars at home, yet this message will have little effect if public transport is unreliable. People need buses and trains that arrive frequently, connect useful locations and operate at convenient hours. Raising parking prices may reduce car use, but providing a practical alternative is more likely to create lasting change. Good public transport should be viewed as essential city infrastructure.
- What problem does the writer identify?
Answer: People will not leave cars at home if public transport is unreliable. - What three features should public transport have?
Answer: Frequency, useful connections and convenient operating hours. - What may raising parking prices do?
Answer: Reduce car use. - What does the writer consider more effective in the long term?
Answer: Providing a practical transport alternative. - How does the writer view public transport?
Answer: As essential infrastructure. - What does “yet” indicate?
Answer: Contrast. - What can be inferred about the writer's view of punishment-based policies?
Answer: They may be less effective than providing good alternatives. - Why are parking prices mentioned?
Answer: To compare two ways of reducing car use. - What is the writer trying to persuade city leaders to do?
Answer: Invest in reliable public transport. - What is the main idea?
Answer: Reducing car dependence requires dependable public transport.
סט 6 – Cycling in Cities
Text: Building bicycle lanes is sometimes criticized because they reduce space for cars. However, a city should not measure every street only by how many cars it can carry. Safe cycling routes give residents another way to travel, particularly for short journeys. They can also make cycling possible for people who would never feel comfortable riding beside heavy traffic. The goal should be to give people more realistic transport choices.
- Why are bicycle lanes sometimes criticized?
Answer: They reduce space for cars. - What does the writer say cities should not do?
Answer: Judge streets only by car capacity. - For what kind of journeys may cycling be especially useful?
Answer: Short journeys. - Who may benefit from protected routes?
Answer: People uncomfortable cycling beside heavy traffic. - What goal does the writer support?
Answer: Giving people more transport choices. - What is the function of “However”?
Answer: It challenges the criticism presented first. - What attitude does the writer have toward bicycle lanes?
Answer: Supportive. - Why does the writer mention heavy traffic?
Answer: To explain why safe lanes can encourage new cyclists. - What assumption does the writer reject?
Answer: That streets should mainly serve cars. - What is the best summary?
Answer: Safe cycling infrastructure increases realistic travel choices.
סט 7 – Remote Work
Text: Remote work has clear advantages, including less commuting and greater flexibility. Yet working from home every day can make communication harder for some teams and leave new employees feeling isolated. For this reason, companies should avoid assuming that one arrangement suits everyone. A flexible system that combines home and office work may give employees both independence and opportunities for face-to-face cooperation.
- Name one advantage of remote work.
Answer: Less commuting or greater flexibility. - What problem may full-time remote work create?
Answer: Harder communication or isolation. - Who may especially feel isolated?
Answer: New employees. - What assumption should companies avoid?
Answer: That one work arrangement suits everyone. - What solution does the writer suggest?
Answer: A flexible hybrid system. - What does “Yet” introduce?
Answer: Disadvantages after advantages. - Why does the writer support a combined system?
Answer: It can offer both independence and in-person cooperation. - Is the writer opposed to remote work?
Answer: No. - What is the writer's overall tone?
Answer: Balanced. - What is the main idea?
Answer: Flexible hybrid work may balance the strengths and weaknesses of remote work.
סט 8 – The Four-Day Workweek
Text: The idea of a four-day workweek is attractive, but simply squeezing five days of work into four longer days would miss the point. The real question is whether organizations can remove unnecessary meetings, improve processes and focus on meaningful tasks. A shorter week may work in some industries and not in others. It should therefore be tested carefully rather than promoted as a universal solution.
- What mistake does the writer warn against?
Answer: Compressing five days of work into four longer days. - What should organizations examine?
Answer: Meetings, processes and meaningful tasks. - Does the writer think a four-day week fits every industry?
Answer: No. - What approach does the writer recommend?
Answer: Careful testing. - What does “universal solution” mean here?
Answer: A solution suitable for everyone. - What is the writer's opinion?
Answer: The idea is worth exploring but should not be applied blindly. - Why are unnecessary meetings mentioned?
Answer: As an example of work that may be reduced. - What can be inferred about productivity?
Answer: Better organization may matter more than simply working longer hours. - What tone does the writer use?
Answer: Cautious and analytical. - What is the main idea?
Answer: A shorter workweek should be tested through smarter work practices, not treated as a simple formula.
סט 9 – School Cafeterias
Text: Schools cannot control everything students eat, but they can make healthy choices easier. If nutritious food is expensive, unattractive or unavailable, telling teenagers to “eat better” is unlikely to change much. Cafeterias should offer affordable meals that students actually enjoy. Education about nutrition matters, but the environment in which students make choices matters too.
- What can schools influence?
Answer: How easy it is to make healthy food choices. - Why may advice to “eat better” fail?
Answer: Healthy food may be expensive, unattractive or unavailable. - What should cafeterias provide?
Answer: Affordable nutritious meals students enjoy. - Does the writer reject nutrition education?
Answer: No. - What additional factor matters?
Answer: The food environment. - What contrast does the final sentence create?
Answer: Education matters, but practical surroundings matter as well. - What is the writer's opinion?
Answer: Schools should combine nutrition education with accessible healthy food. - Why does the writer use quotation marks around “eat better”?
Answer: To present a common but overly simple instruction. - What can be inferred about behavior?
Answer: Choices are influenced by what is realistically available. - What is the main message?
Answer: Healthy eating requires supportive choices, not advice alone.
סט 10 – Volunteering
Text: Encouraging teenagers to volunteer can benefit both young people and their communities. However, making a large number of volunteer hours compulsory may change the meaning of the experience. Students should be introduced to different opportunities and encouraged to choose causes that matter to them. When they feel that their contribution has a purpose, volunteering is more likely to become a lasting habit rather than another school requirement.
- Who can benefit from teenage volunteering?
Answer: Teenagers and their communities. - What concern does the writer express?
Answer: Too many compulsory hours may reduce the meaning of volunteering. - What should students be allowed to choose?
Answer: Causes that matter to them. - When is volunteering more likely to become a habit?
Answer: When students feel their contribution has a purpose. - What does “rather than” contrast?
Answer: A lasting habit with another school requirement. - Is the writer against volunteering programs?
Answer: No. - What approach does the writer favor?
Answer: Choice and meaningful participation. - Why does the writer mention compulsory hours?
Answer: To show how a good idea can lose value if implemented poorly. - What is the writer's tone?
Answer: Positive but cautious. - What is the main idea?
Answer: Volunteering is most valuable when students can connect personally with it.
סט 11 – Public Libraries
Text: Some people question whether public libraries are still necessary when so much information is online. I believe this view is too narrow. Libraries provide quiet study space, internet access, books, community activities and professional help in finding reliable information. Their role is changing, but change does not mean disappearance. A modern library can be more than a building full of books; it can be a shared learning space.
- Why do some people question libraries?
Answer: Because much information is available online. - How does the writer describe this view?
Answer: Too narrow. - Name two services libraries provide.
Answer: Any two: study space, internet, books, activities or professional help. - What is happening to the role of libraries?
Answer: It is changing. - Does the writer think libraries are disappearing because their role changes?
Answer: No. - What broader definition of a library is suggested?
Answer: A shared learning space. - What is the writer's attitude?
Answer: Strongly supportive of modern libraries. - Why is reliable information mentioned?
Answer: To show that librarians and libraries offer guidance beyond internet access. - What misconception does the writer challenge?
Answer: That online information makes libraries unnecessary. - What is the main idea?
Answer: Libraries remain valuable because they have evolved into broader learning spaces.
סט 12 – E-books and Printed Books
Text: Arguments about whether e-books are better than printed books often create a false choice. Digital books are convenient for travel and allow readers to carry a large library on one device. Printed books require no battery and many readers prefer the physical experience of using them. Instead of declaring one format the winner, readers should choose the format that best suits the situation.
- What does the writer call a false choice?
Answer: The idea that one book format must be better than the other. - What advantage do e-books have for travel?
Answer: Many books can be carried on one device. - What advantage do printed books have?
Answer: They require no battery. - What do some readers prefer?
Answer: The physical experience of printed books. - What does the writer recommend?
Answer: Choosing according to the situation. - Is the writer trying to prove that e-books are superior?
Answer: No. - What is the purpose of comparing both formats?
Answer: To show that each has advantages. - What is the tone?
Answer: Balanced and practical. - What can be inferred about reading preferences?
Answer: They depend on individual needs and circumstances. - What is the main message?
Answer: E-books and printed books can both be useful in different situations.
סט 13 – Social Media Breaks
Text: Deleting every social media account is not realistic or necessary for most people. Social platforms can help friends stay connected and allow users to discover useful information. The problem begins when checking becomes automatic and interrupts studying, sleep or conversations. A more practical solution is to create periods during the day when notifications are turned off and the phone is placed out of reach.
- Does the writer recommend deleting all social media?
Answer: No. - Name one benefit of social media.
Answer: Staying connected or discovering useful information. - When does social media become a problem?
Answer: When automatic checking interrupts important activities. - Name one activity that may be interrupted.
Answer: Studying, sleep or conversation. - What solution is suggested?
Answer: Creating phone-free periods and turning off notifications. - What does “automatic” suggest?
Answer: Checking without consciously deciding to do so. - What is the writer's attitude toward social media?
Answer: Moderate rather than completely negative. - Why is putting the phone out of reach suggested?
Answer: To reduce automatic checking. - What problem is the writer mainly addressing?
Answer: Uncontrolled or distracting social media use. - What is the main idea?
Answer: Managing social media habits may be more practical than quitting completely.
סט 14 – Influencers and Advertising
Text: Social media influencers can recommend products in a way that feels more personal than traditional advertising. That is exactly why clear disclosure is important. Viewers should be able to tell when a recommendation is paid for. This does not mean sponsored content is automatically dishonest, but audiences need enough information to judge it fairly. Transparency protects both viewers and trustworthy creators.
- Why can influencer advertising feel different?
Answer: It can feel more personal. - What does the writer believe is important?
Answer: Clear disclosure of paid recommendations. - What should viewers be able to identify?
Answer: Whether a recommendation is sponsored. - Does the writer say all sponsored content is dishonest?
Answer: No. - Why do audiences need information?
Answer: So they can judge recommendations fairly. - Who benefits from transparency?
Answer: Viewers and trustworthy creators. - What is the writer's opinion?
Answer: Sponsored influencer content should be clearly identified. - What does “That” refer to in the second sentence?
Answer: The personal nature of influencer recommendations. - What is the purpose of the sentence about dishonesty?
Answer: To avoid making an overly extreme claim. - What is the main message?
Answer: Transparency is essential in influencer advertising.
סט 15 – Video Games
Text: Video games are often discussed as if they are either harmful or beneficial, but the reality is more complicated. Games can provide entertainment, social interaction and challenging problem-solving. At the same time, excessive gaming can interfere with sleep, exercise and schoolwork. Instead of asking whether gaming is “good” or “bad,” families should pay attention to the amount of time spent playing and whether other parts of life remain balanced.
- How are video games often discussed?
Answer: As either completely harmful or completely beneficial. - Name one possible benefit of games.
Answer: Entertainment, social interaction or problem-solving. - What can excessive gaming interfere with?
Answer: Sleep, exercise or schoolwork. - What question does the writer think families should avoid?
Answer: Whether gaming is simply good or bad. - What should families examine instead?
Answer: Time spent gaming and overall balance. - What does “At the same time” introduce?
Answer: The negative side after the benefits. - What is the writer's attitude?
Answer: Balanced. - Why are sleep and exercise mentioned?
Answer: As examples of areas affected by excessive gaming. - What can be inferred about moderate gaming?
Answer: The writer does not consider it automatically harmful. - What is the central message?
Answer: The effects of gaming depend largely on balance and amount.
סט 16 – Art Education
Text: When school budgets are limited, art and music are sometimes treated as optional extras. This is a mistake. Not every student will become an artist or musician, but creative subjects give young people opportunities to express ideas, work patiently on projects and experience forms of success that may not appear in traditional academic lessons. Schools should protect a broad curriculum rather than defining education only through exam subjects.
- When are art and music sometimes reduced?
Answer: When school budgets are limited. - How does the writer view this decision?
Answer: As a mistake. - Does the writer expect every student to become an artist?
Answer: No. - Give one benefit of creative subjects.
Answer: Expression, patience on projects or different forms of success. - What should schools protect?
Answer: A broad curriculum. - What view of education does the writer reject?
Answer: Defining education only through exam subjects. - What is the writer's tone?
Answer: Firm and supportive. - Why does the writer mention traditional academic lessons?
Answer: To contrast them with other ways students can succeed. - What can be inferred about student abilities?
Answer: Students may show strengths in different kinds of subjects. - What is the main idea?
Answer: Creative subjects are an important part of education and should not be treated as unnecessary.
סט 17 – Competitive Sports
Text: Competition can motivate young athletes, but winning should not become the only measure of success. A teenager who improves technique, learns to cooperate with teammates or returns confidently after a mistake has achieved something important even if the team loses. Coaches who focus only on results risk making sport stressful and discouraging. Healthy competition should challenge young people without making them afraid to fail.
- What can competition do?
Answer: Motivate young athletes. - What should not be the only measure of success?
Answer: Winning. - Give one alternative achievement mentioned.
Answer: Improving technique, teamwork or recovering after a mistake. - What risk comes from focusing only on results?
Answer: Sport may become stressful and discouraging. - How should healthy competition make young people feel?
Answer: Challenged, but not afraid of failure. - What is the writer's position on competition?
Answer: It can be positive when success is defined broadly. - Why is losing a game mentioned?
Answer: To show that valuable progress can happen without winning. - What does “even if” signal?
Answer: A contrast between achievement and the final result. - What attitude does the writer have toward failure?
Answer: Failure should be part of learning, not something to fear. - What is the main idea?
Answer: Youth sports should value development as well as winning.
סט 18 – Healthy Eating
Text: Advice about healthy eating often becomes so complicated that people stop listening. Most people do not need a perfect diet; they need habits they can maintain. Cooking a few simple meals, drinking more water and adding vegetables regularly may be less exciting than following the latest food trend, but sustainable changes are more useful than strict plans that last only a week.
- Why may people stop listening to healthy eating advice?
Answer: Because it becomes too complicated. - What do most people need according to the writer?
Answer: Sustainable habits. - Give one simple habit mentioned.
Answer: Cooking simple meals, drinking more water or adding vegetables. - What are these habits compared with?
Answer: New food trends. - What does the writer criticize?
Answer: Strict plans that cannot be maintained. - What does “sustainable” mean in context?
Answer: Able to continue over time. - What is the writer's opinion?
Answer: Simple lasting changes are better than extreme short-term diets. - Why does the writer mention one week?
Answer: To emphasize how quickly strict plans may end. - What tone is used?
Answer: Practical and reassuring. - What is the main message?
Answer: Healthy eating should focus on realistic long-term habits.
סט 19 – Teenagers and Sleep
Text: Telling teenagers simply to “go to bed earlier” ignores how many factors affect sleep. Homework, evening activities, social habits and screen use can all play a role. Young people still need to take responsibility for their routines, but adults should also look at the schedules and expectations surrounding them. Better sleep is more likely when responsibility is shared rather than placed entirely on teenagers.
- What advice does the writer consider too simple?
Answer: Telling teenagers to go to bed earlier. - Name one factor affecting sleep.
Answer: Homework, activities, social habits or screen use. - Do teenagers have responsibility?
Answer: Yes. - What should adults examine?
Answer: Schedules and expectations around teenagers. - What solution does the writer favor?
Answer: Shared responsibility. - What does “but” introduce?
Answer: The responsibility adults also have. - Why are several sleep factors listed?
Answer: To show that the problem is complex. - What view does the writer reject?
Answer: That sleep problems are entirely the teenager's fault. - What can be inferred about effective solutions?
Answer: They should address both habits and surrounding conditions. - What is the main idea?
Answer: Improving teenage sleep requires responsibility from both teenagers and adults.
סט 20 – School Trips
Text: School trips should be more than a break from regular lessons. A well-planned visit to a museum, nature reserve or workplace can make classroom ideas concrete and memorable. However, trips become less valuable when students are given no preparation and no opportunity to reflect afterward. Schools should connect the experience to learning before and after the visit.
- What should school trips be more than?
Answer: A break from lessons. - What can a well-planned trip do?
Answer: Make classroom ideas concrete and memorable. - Name one destination mentioned.
Answer: A museum, nature reserve or workplace. - When do trips become less valuable?
Answer: When students receive no preparation or reflection afterward. - What should schools do?
Answer: Connect trips to learning before and after the visit. - What does “However” introduce?
Answer: A condition that can reduce the value of trips. - What is the writer's attitude toward school trips?
Answer: Positive when they are educationally planned. - Why does the writer mention reflection?
Answer: To show that learning should continue after the experience. - What can be inferred about entertainment alone?
Answer: It is not enough to make a trip educationally valuable. - What is the main idea?
Answer: School trips are most useful when integrated with classroom learning.
סט 21 – Recycling
Text: Recycling is useful, but it should not become an excuse to ignore how much we consume. A person who buys many unnecessary products and recycles the packaging may still create more waste than someone who buys less. Communities should continue improving recycling systems while also encouraging people to reuse items and avoid unnecessary purchases. The best waste is often the waste we never create.
- Does the writer consider recycling useless?
Answer: No. - What should recycling not become?
Answer: An excuse for excessive consumption. - Who may create more waste?
Answer: Someone who buys many unnecessary products even if they recycle. - What should communities continue improving?
Answer: Recycling systems. - What additional behaviors are encouraged?
Answer: Reusing items and buying less unnecessarily. - What does the final sentence mean?
Answer: Preventing waste can be better than dealing with it afterward. - What is the writer's opinion?
Answer: Recycling should be combined with reducing consumption. - Why is packaging mentioned?
Answer: To illustrate the limits of recycling alone. - What contrast appears in the text?
Answer: Recycling waste versus preventing waste. - What is the main idea?
Answer: Waste reduction requires more than recycling.
סט 22 – City Parks
Text: In crowded cities, parks are sometimes viewed as empty land that could be used for buildings or roads. This overlooks their value. Public green spaces give residents places to exercise, meet others, rest and escape traffic noise. They are particularly important for people who do not have private gardens. Protecting parks is therefore not a luxury; it is part of creating a livable city.
- How are parks sometimes viewed?
Answer: As land that could be used for construction or roads. - How does the writer respond to this view?
Answer: The writer says it overlooks their value. - Name two benefits of parks.
Answer: Any two: exercise, socializing, rest or escape from traffic noise. - Who may especially need parks?
Answer: People without private gardens. - How does the writer describe protecting parks?
Answer: As part of creating a livable city. - What does “therefore” introduce?
Answer: The writer's conclusion. - What is the writer's attitude?
Answer: Strongly supportive of protecting parks. - Why are private gardens mentioned?
Answer: To show why public green spaces are especially important for some residents. - What does “not a luxury” imply?
Answer: Parks are a necessity, not merely an optional extra. - What is the main idea?
Answer: Urban parks are essential public spaces that cities should protect.
סט 23 – Tourism
Text: Tourism can bring jobs and income to a region, but success should not be measured only by the number of visitors. Too many tourists in a small area can increase traffic, raise local prices and damage natural sites. Communities need tourism policies that protect residents and the places visitors came to enjoy. Sometimes attracting fewer visitors who stay longer may be better than pursuing endless growth.
- What benefit of tourism is mentioned?
Answer: Jobs and income. - What should not be the only measure of success?
Answer: The number of visitors. - Name one problem caused by too many tourists.
Answer: Traffic, higher local prices or damage to natural sites. - What should tourism policies protect?
Answer: Residents and local places. - What alternative does the writer suggest?
Answer: Fewer visitors who stay longer. - What is the writer's view of endless tourism growth?
Answer: Skeptical. - Why does the writer mention natural sites?
Answer: To show that tourism can damage the attractions people visit. - What does “but” introduce?
Answer: A limitation to the positive economic argument. - What can be inferred about sustainable tourism?
Answer: Quality and local impact matter as much as visitor numbers. - What is the main idea?
Answer: Tourism should be managed for long-term community benefit rather than maximum numbers.
סט 24 – Part-Time Jobs for Teenagers
Text: A part-time job can teach teenagers responsibility, communication and money management. However, work should not take so many hours that schoolwork, sleep or friendships suffer. The question is not whether teenagers should work at all, but how much work fits reasonably into their lives. A few carefully scheduled hours can provide useful experience without turning every afternoon into another obligation.
- Name one skill a part-time job can teach.
Answer: Responsibility, communication or money management. - What danger does the writer mention?
Answer: Working so much that other areas of life suffer. - Which areas may be affected?
Answer: Schoolwork, sleep or friendships. - What question does the writer consider important?
Answer: How much work reasonably fits into a teenager's life. - What amount of work does the writer suggest?
Answer: A few carefully scheduled hours. - Is the writer against teenage employment?
Answer: No. - What does “However” signal?
Answer: A limitation after the benefits. - Why does the writer mention “another obligation”?
Answer: To warn against overloading teenagers. - What is the writer's overall approach?
Answer: Moderation and balance. - What is the main idea?
Answer: Part-time jobs can benefit teenagers if working hours remain limited and balanced.
סט 25 – Gap Years
Text: Taking a year between school and further study can be valuable, but only if the time has some direction. Travel, employment, volunteering or learning a new skill can help a young person become more independent. On the other hand, simply postponing decisions without a plan may not solve uncertainty. A gap year should be treated as an opportunity with goals, not as an automatic solution for anyone who feels unsure.
- When can a gap year be valuable?
Answer: When it has some direction or purpose. - Name one useful gap-year activity.
Answer: Travel, employment, volunteering or learning a skill. - What may these activities develop?
Answer: Independence. - What may fail to solve uncertainty?
Answer: Postponing decisions without a plan. - How should a gap year be treated?
Answer: As an opportunity with goals. - What does “On the other hand” introduce?
Answer: A contrasting risk. - Does the writer recommend a gap year to everyone?
Answer: No. - What is the writer's attitude?
Answer: Positive when the year is purposeful. - Why is uncertainty mentioned?
Answer: To show that time alone may not make decisions easier. - What is the main idea?
Answer: A gap year is useful when it is planned rather than used simply to delay choices.
סט 26 – Team Projects
Text: Group projects are often unpopular because students worry that some members will do most of the work. This concern is reasonable, but abandoning teamwork would remove an important learning opportunity. Schools should improve the way group tasks are designed by giving members clear roles and including individual responsibility. The goal is not to pretend teamwork is easy; it is to teach students how to do it better.
- Why are group projects sometimes unpopular?
Answer: Students fear the work will be divided unfairly. - Does the writer dismiss this concern?
Answer: No. - Why should teamwork not be abandoned?
Answer: It provides an important learning opportunity. - What should group members receive?
Answer: Clear roles. - What else should group tasks include?
Answer: Individual responsibility. - What does “but” signal in the second sentence?
Answer: A contrast between the problem and the value of teamwork. - What does the writer want schools to improve?
Answer: The design of group projects. - What does the final sentence imply?
Answer: Teamwork is a skill that can be taught and improved. - What is the tone?
Answer: Realistic but constructive. - What is the main message?
Answer: Schools should improve group projects rather than eliminate them.
סט 27 – Exams
Text: Exams can provide useful information about what students know under certain conditions, but no single test can show everything a learner is capable of doing. Projects, classroom work and longer-term progress can reveal different strengths. Schools should therefore use exams as one source of evidence rather than treating one result as a complete description of a student's ability.
- What can exams provide?
Answer: Information about what students know under certain conditions. - What can no single test show?
Answer: Everything a learner can do. - Name another source of information about students.
Answer: Projects, classroom work or long-term progress. - What should schools do with exam results?
Answer: Use them as one source of evidence. - What should they not do?
Answer: Treat one result as a complete description of ability. - What does “therefore” indicate?
Answer: The conclusion based on the previous ideas. - Is the writer against exams?
Answer: No. - What attitude does the writer express?
Answer: Exams have value but clear limitations. - Why are projects mentioned?
Answer: To show other ways of demonstrating ability. - What is the main idea?
Answer: Student ability should be assessed using more than one exam result.
סט 28 – Grades and Feedback
Text: A grade tells students how they performed, but it does not always tell them what to do next. Detailed feedback can show which part of an answer was strong, where understanding broke down and how to improve. Grades may still be necessary, but they are far more useful when combined with guidance. Students need information that helps them move forward, not only a number describing the past.
- What can a grade tell students?
Answer: How they performed. - What may a grade fail to explain?
Answer: What the student should do next. - What can detailed feedback identify?
Answer: Strengths, misunderstandings and ways to improve. - Does the writer say grades should disappear?
Answer: No. - When are grades more useful?
Answer: When combined with guidance. - What does “move forward” mean here?
Answer: Improve future performance. - What contrast appears in the final sentence?
Answer: Future improvement versus a number about past performance. - What is the writer's opinion?
Answer: Feedback should accompany grades. - Why does the writer mention where understanding “broke down”?
Answer: To show that feedback can diagnose the exact problem. - What is the main idea?
Answer: Assessment is more useful when students receive actionable feedback, not just grades.
סט 29 – Practical Life Skills
Text: Schools cannot teach every skill a person will ever need, but students would benefit from more practical knowledge about budgeting, contracts, online safety and workplace communication. These topics should not replace mathematics, languages or science. Instead, practical skills can be connected to existing subjects so students see how academic knowledge is used outside the classroom.
- What practical topics are mentioned?
Answer: Budgeting, contracts, online safety and workplace communication. - Does the writer think schools can teach every life skill?
Answer: No. - Should practical skills replace academic subjects?
Answer: No. - What solution does the writer suggest?
Answer: Connecting practical skills to existing subjects. - What benefit would this connection provide?
Answer: Students would see how academic knowledge is used in real life. - What does “Instead” introduce?
Answer: An alternative to replacing academic subjects. - What is the writer's attitude toward traditional subjects?
Answer: They remain important. - Why are contracts mentioned?
Answer: As an example of practical knowledge students may need. - What can be inferred about education?
Answer: It should connect academic learning with real-world use. - What is the main idea?
Answer: Practical life skills should be integrated into school learning.
סט 30 – Online Learning
Text: Online learning is sometimes judged by asking whether it is better or worse than classroom learning. That comparison is too simple. Online lessons can provide access to specialist teachers, flexible scheduling and learning from home. Classroom lessons may offer easier social interaction and physical activities. The best format depends on the learner, the subject and the purpose of the lesson.
- What comparison does the writer consider too simple?
Answer: Asking whether online learning is simply better or worse than classroom learning. - Name one advantage of online learning.
Answer: Specialist teachers, flexible scheduling or studying from home. - Name one classroom advantage.
Answer: Easier social interaction or physical activities. - What determines the best format?
Answer: The learner, subject and lesson purpose. - Does the writer claim one format always wins?
Answer: No. - What is the writer's tone?
Answer: Balanced and practical. - Why are specialist teachers mentioned?
Answer: To illustrate a benefit of online access. - What does the text imply about individual learners?
Answer: Different learners may benefit from different formats. - What broad idea does the text challenge?
Answer: That one learning format is universally superior. - What is the main idea?
Answer: The best learning format depends on needs and circumstances.
סט 31 – School Clubs
Text: School clubs are sometimes seen as less important than academic lessons, yet they can give students a different reason to feel connected to school. A student who joins a robotics, drama, debate or sports club may build friendships and discover abilities that are not obvious in class. Participation should remain voluntary, but schools should make a wide variety of activities accessible.
- How are school clubs sometimes viewed?
Answer: As less important than academic lessons. - What can clubs increase?
Answer: Students' connection to school. - Name one club mentioned.
Answer: Robotics, drama, debate or sports. - What may students discover?
Answer: Abilities that are not obvious in class. - Should participation be compulsory?
Answer: No. - What should schools do?
Answer: Make a variety of activities accessible. - What does “yet” introduce?
Answer: A positive counterpoint to the negative perception. - Why are friendships mentioned?
Answer: To show a social benefit of clubs. - What is the writer's attitude?
Answer: Supportive of voluntary school clubs. - What is the main idea?
Answer: School clubs can support belonging and personal development.
סט 32 – Pets in the Workplace
Text: Allowing pets in an office may make some employees feel relaxed, but a universal pet-friendly policy can create problems for others. Allergies, fear of animals and the need for quiet work all deserve consideration. Companies interested in the idea should establish specific areas or selected days rather than assume every employee will enjoy sharing a workspace with animals.
- What possible benefit of pets is mentioned?
Answer: They may help some employees feel relaxed. - What health issue is mentioned?
Answer: Allergies. - What emotional issue is mentioned?
Answer: Fear of animals. - What workplace need may conflict with pets?
Answer: Quiet work. - What compromise does the writer suggest?
Answer: Specific pet areas or selected pet-friendly days. - What assumption should companies avoid?
Answer: That everyone enjoys animals at work. - What does “but” signal?
Answer: A limitation after a possible benefit. - What is the writer's position?
Answer: Pet-friendly policies should consider different employee needs. - What is the tone?
Answer: Cautious and balanced. - What is the main idea?
Answer: Workplace pet policies need flexibility rather than a one-size-fits-all rule.
סט 33 – Music While Studying
Text: Some students insist that music helps them study, while others cannot concentrate with any sound in the background. Both may be right. The effect can depend on the task, the type of music and the individual. Reading a difficult text may require different conditions from organizing notes. Students should experiment carefully and judge their method by what they remember, not simply by what feels pleasant.
- What disagreement is presented?
Answer: Whether music helps concentration while studying. - Can both groups be right?
Answer: Yes. - Name one factor affecting the result.
Answer: The task, music type or individual learner. - What two study tasks are compared?
Answer: Reading a difficult text and organizing notes. - What should students do?
Answer: Experiment and evaluate what actually helps them learn. - What should they measure?
Answer: What they remember. - Why is “what feels pleasant” not enough?
Answer: Enjoyment does not necessarily mean effective learning. - What is the writer's attitude?
Answer: Flexible and evidence-focused. - What can be inferred about study methods?
Answer: They should be adapted to the learner and task. - What is the main idea?
Answer: Whether music helps studying depends on context and should be tested by learning results.
סט 34 – Advertising to Children
Text: Children encounter advertising in videos, games and social media, where the line between entertainment and marketing is not always obvious. Companies have a responsibility to make commercial content identifiable. Parents can teach children to question what they see, but families should not carry the entire burden. Platforms and advertisers also need rules that recognize that young audiences may not evaluate persuasion in the same way adults do.
- Where do children encounter advertising?
Answer: In videos, games and social media. - What may be unclear?
Answer: The difference between entertainment and marketing. - What responsibility do companies have?
Answer: Making commercial content identifiable. - What can parents teach children?
Answer: To question what they see. - Should parents have all the responsibility?
Answer: No. - Who else should act?
Answer: Platforms and advertisers. - Why may children need special protection?
Answer: They may evaluate persuasive content differently from adults. - What does “burden” mean in context?
Answer: Responsibility. - What is the writer's opinion?
Answer: Protecting children from unclear advertising requires shared responsibility. - What is the main idea?
Answer: Digital advertising to children should be transparent and properly regulated.
סט 35 – Cashless Payments
Text: Digital payments are fast and convenient, but a completely cashless society could exclude people who lack smartphones, bank access or confidence with technology. Businesses may prefer electronic payments, yet essential services should remain accessible to everyone. Innovation is useful when it expands choice; it becomes a problem when it removes the only workable option for part of the population.
- What benefits of digital payments are mentioned?
Answer: Speed and convenience. - Who could be excluded?
Answer: People without smartphones, bank access or technological confidence. - What may businesses prefer?
Answer: Electronic payments. - What must essential services remain?
Answer: Accessible to everyone. - When does innovation become a problem?
Answer: When it removes workable options for some people. - Is the writer against digital payment?
Answer: No. - What does “yet” signal?
Answer: A contrast between business preference and public accessibility. - What value does the writer emphasize?
Answer: Inclusion and choice. - What can be inferred about cash?
Answer: It may still be necessary for some people. - What is the main idea?
Answer: Digital payments are useful, but moving entirely away from cash could exclude some people.
סט 36 – Local Shops
Text: Online shopping offers convenience and often a wider range of products, so asking people to stop using it is unrealistic. Still, local shops provide something different: immediate service, local employment and streets where people meet one another. Consumers do not have to make an all-or-nothing choice. Choosing local businesses for some purchases can help maintain active town centers while keeping the benefits of online shopping.
- What advantages of online shopping are mentioned?
Answer: Convenience and wider product choice. - What request does the writer consider unrealistic?
Answer: Asking people to stop shopping online. - Name one benefit of local shops.
Answer: Immediate service, local jobs or social town centers. - Do consumers have to choose only one type of shopping?
Answer: No. - What action does the writer suggest?
Answer: Making some purchases from local businesses. - What does “Still” introduce?
Answer: A counterpoint in favor of local shops. - What is an “all-or-nothing choice”?
Answer: Choosing one option completely and rejecting the other. - What does the writer want to preserve?
Answer: Active town centers. - What is the writer's overall position?
Answer: Consumers can combine online convenience with support for local shops. - What is the main idea?
Answer: Supporting local shops does not require giving up online shopping.
סט 37 – Learning a Second Language
Text: Many learners wait until they know “enough” grammar before they start speaking a new language. This can become an endless delay. Grammar matters, but speaking is itself a skill that develops through use. Learners should begin with simple sentences, accept that mistakes will occur and gradually expand what they can say. Accuracy and confidence can grow together rather than one waiting for the other.
- What do many learners wait for?
Answer: Knowing enough grammar before speaking. - What problem can this create?
Answer: An endless delay in speaking practice. - Does the writer say grammar is unimportant?
Answer: No. - How does speaking develop?
Answer: Through actual use. - How should learners begin?
Answer: With simple sentences. - What should they accept?
Answer: That mistakes will happen. - What can grow together?
Answer: Accuracy and confidence. - What belief does the writer challenge?
Answer: That learners must master grammar before speaking. - What is the writer's tone?
Answer: Encouraging and practical. - What is the main idea?
Answer: Learners should practise speaking before their language is perfect.
סט 38 – Community Service
Text: Community service projects are most effective when organizers listen to the people they hope to help. A group may arrive with good intentions but choose a project the community does not actually need. Asking residents about priorities before planning can prevent wasted effort and create stronger cooperation. Helping is not only about being willing to act; it is also about understanding what kind of action is useful.
- When are community projects most effective?
Answer: When organizers listen to the community. - What problem can good intentions still create?
Answer: Choosing a project people do not need. - What should organizers ask residents about?
Answer: Their priorities. - What can this prevent?
Answer: Wasted effort. - What can consultation strengthen?
Answer: Cooperation. - What does the final sentence add?
Answer: Good intentions must be matched with useful action. - What is the writer's attitude toward volunteering?
Answer: Positive, provided it responds to real needs. - Why does the writer mention “good intentions”?
Answer: To show that wanting to help is not enough. - What can be inferred about planning?
Answer: It should include the people affected by the project. - What is the main idea?
Answer: Effective community service begins by understanding what the community actually needs.
סט 39 – School Uniforms
Text: School uniforms may reduce daily arguments about clothing and make mornings simpler for some families. However, uniforms do not automatically create equality, because differences in shoes, phones and other possessions remain visible. Schools considering uniforms should be honest about what the policy can and cannot achieve. A uniform may be a practical rule, but it is not a complete solution to social pressure.
- What possible benefit of uniforms is mentioned?
Answer: Fewer clothing arguments or simpler mornings. - What do uniforms not automatically create?
Answer: Equality. - What differences may remain visible?
Answer: Shoes, phones and other possessions. - What should schools be honest about?
Answer: What uniforms can and cannot achieve. - How does the writer describe uniforms?
Answer: A possible practical rule, not a complete social solution. - What does “However” introduce?
Answer: A limitation to the benefits. - Does the writer completely oppose uniforms?
Answer: No. - Why are phones and shoes mentioned?
Answer: To show that visible differences remain despite uniforms. - What social problem is discussed?
Answer: Social pressure and inequality. - What is the main idea?
Answer: Uniforms may offer practical benefits but cannot solve social inequality by themselves.
סט 40 – Learning from Mistakes
Text: Students often want a teacher to correct every mistake immediately, yet constant interruption can make speaking difficult and stressful. Some errors need quick correction, especially when they prevent understanding. Others can be noted and discussed after the student finishes speaking. Effective feedback is not simply about correcting as much as possible; it is about choosing the right correction at the right moment so the learner can improve without becoming afraid to communicate.
- What do students sometimes want teachers to do?
Answer: Correct every mistake immediately. - What problem can constant interruption cause?
Answer: Speaking may become difficult and stressful. - Which errors may need quick correction?
Answer: Errors that prevent understanding. - When can other mistakes be discussed?
Answer: After the student finishes speaking. - What is effective feedback not about?
Answer: Correcting as many errors as possible. - What does effective feedback require?
Answer: Choosing the right correction at the right time. - Why does the writer mention fear?
Answer: To show that excessive correction can reduce willingness to communicate. - What does “yet” signal?
Answer: A contrast between the desire for correction and its possible negative effect. - What is the writer's position on correction?
Answer: Correction is important but should be selective and well timed. - What is the main idea?
Answer: Good language feedback balances accuracy with confidence and communication.
Inference.
Opinion?

Answer: Correction is important but should be selective and well timed. - What is the main idea?
Answer: Good language feedback balances accuracy with confidence and communication.
Inference.
Opinion?
3. Cambridge English – B2 First Handbook
Cambridge English
4. Education Endowment Foundation – Reading Comprehension Strategies
